When imported building materials are needed for a scheduled project, choosing the right departure port can make a substantial difference.
For this shipment, BRF SHIPPING arranged one 40HQ container of aluminum alloy fences and gates from a factory in Bayuquan, Liaoning, to Bowhill Road in the Brisbane area, Australia.
The cargo was collected using a truck-and-ferry arrangement connecting Qingdao, Yantai, Dalian and the Bayuquan factory. After loading, the container returned to Qingdao Port for a COSCO sailing to Brisbane.
Compared with the Dalian departure option reviewed for this shipment, the selected Qingdao-to-Brisbane ocean service was approximately 15 days faster.
Although the inland transport cost increased, the routing provided a practical solution for a customer working toward a delivery deadline.

Why Ship Through Qingdao Instead of Dalian?
The factory’s location made Dalian an available export gateway. However, departure-port selection needed to reflect the customer’s delivery requirements as well as inland transport costs.
BRF SHIPPING compared the available ocean services and identified a Qingdao departure offering a shorter ocean transit time to Brisbane.
The Qingdao routing involved additional trucking and ferry coordination, but the selected sailing provided an approximately 15-day ocean transit advantage over the Dalian option reviewed.
For this shipment, the customer accepted the higher inland transport cost to access the faster sailing option.
Our sea freight from China to Australia service considers departure ports, carrier schedules, container availability and destination delivery requirements when planning a shipment.
Step 1: Collecting the Empty 40HQ Container in Qingdao
The truck collected the empty 40HQ container in Qingdao and travelled to Yantai Ferry Terminal.
Collecting the container in Qingdao connected the inland movement with the selected departure-port arrangement. The next stage was transporting the truck and container across the Bohai Sea to Dalian.
Step 2: Ferry Transport from Yantai to Dalian
The truck and container boarded the ferry at Yantai and travelled to Dalian.
After arrival, the truck continued to the Bayuquan factory for loading.
This road-and-ferry routing allowed the factory to use the selected Qingdao export service while keeping the inland round trip to approximately two days.
Step 3: Loading Aluminum Fences and Gates in Four Hours
The factory completed container loading in approximately four hours.
The cargo consisted of aluminum alloy fence panels and matching gates, shipped together in one 40HQ container.
Keeping the loading operation on schedule helped maintain the return transport plan. The loaded container still needed to reach Dalian, cross back to Yantai and continue to Qingdao Port before the relevant port deadline.
BRF SHIPPING’s FCL and LCL sea freight services connect container loading and origin transport with international ocean shipping.
Step 4: Returning the Loaded Container to Qingdao Port
After factory loading, the truck returned to Dalian for the ferry crossing to Yantai.
From Yantai, the loaded container travelled by road to Qingdao Port for the selected COSCO sailing.
The complete inland movement followed this route:
Qingdao container collection → Yantai ferry terminal → Dalian → Bayuquan factory loading → Dalian ferry terminal → Yantai → Qingdao Port
The truck’s round trip took approximately two days.
This arrangement required close coordination between container collection, factory loading, ferry movements and port receiving deadlines.
Step 5: COSCO Shipping from Qingdao to Brisbane
The container was routed through Qingdao Port for COSCO ocean transport to Brisbane.
For the sailing options compared in this case, the Qingdao service offered an ocean transit time approximately 15 days shorter than the Dalian option.
That difference made the routing attractive for cargo with a tight delivery requirement.
The time advantage was specific to the services compared for this shipment. Future shipments require a fresh schedule comparison, and total door-to-door timing also includes origin transport, port handling, customs clearance and final delivery.
Brisbane Customs Clearance and Delivery to Bowhill Road
The service scope included Australian customs clearance and delivery to the customer’s Bowhill Road address in the Brisbane area.
This gave the customer a coordinated transport arrangement covering factory collection, international shipping and destination delivery.

BRF SHIPPING also provides door-to-door shipping from China, with service inclusions defined according to the quotation and agreed shipment terms.
17 Days of Container Free Time for Customer Unloading
This shipment arrangement included 17 days of destination container free time, which was sufficient for the customer’s planned unloading.
For a full container of fence panels and gates, adequate unloading time helps the receiver organize labour, unloading equipment and empty-container return.
The free-time calculation and return deadline should be confirmed against the booking terms. Container free time and terminal storage allowances may be different, so both need to be checked before arrival.
Balancing Higher Inland Costs Against a Faster Sailing
Using Qingdao increased the inland transport cost because the arrangement included trucking and return ferry crossings.
However, the customer’s priority was finding a shipping option that better matched the delivery deadline.
The decision therefore considered:
- The available vessel departure dates.
- Ocean transit time from each port.
- Inland trucking and ferry costs.
- Factory loading readiness.
- Destination clearance and delivery.
- Container free time for unloading.
