Estimated Air Freight Transit Time
Air freight timing depends on the origin and destination airports, direct or connecting service, booking space, customs, security screening and final-delivery distance.
These are planning estimates, not guarantees. Confirm flight availability, cargo cut-off and destination clearance requirements before making delivery commitments.
| Service Type | Estimated Time | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| Priority airport-to-airport | About 1–4 days | Urgent and high-value cargo |
| Standard airport-to-airport | About 3–7 days | Regular commercial shipments |
| Economy / consolidated air | About 5–10+ days | Flexible deadlines |
| Door-to-door air freight | About 5–12+ days | Pickup, customs and final delivery |

Airport, DAP or DDP?
Airport-to-airport: transportation ends at the agreed destination airport and the consignee arranges clearance and collection.
DAP / DDU: delivery is coordinated while the buyer normally remains responsible for import clearance, duties and taxes.
DDP: a landed solution requiring a clear importer-of-record arrangement and agreement on customs, duties, taxes and delivery responsibilities.
Service availability depends on the destination, commodity and regulatory requirements.
Actual Weight vs Volumetric Weight
Airlines normally price cargo using chargeable weight: the higher of actual gross weight and volumetric weight. A commonly used air-cargo formula is length × width × height in centimetres ÷ 6,000, but the applicable divisor and rounding rules must be confirmed for the service.
Example: one carton measuring 100 × 80 × 60 cm has a volumetric weight of 80 kg. If its actual weight is 55 kg, pricing is normally based on 80 kg.
Actual Gross Weight
The physical weight of the cargo including cartons, pallets and packaging.
Volumetric Weight
Space-based weight calculated from package dimensions.
Chargeable Weight
The higher pricing weight after airline rules and rounding are applied.
Other Charges
Pickup, screening, terminal, fuel, documentation, customs and delivery may be separate.
Air Freight Documents and Cargo Compliance
Accurate cargo details are required before airline acceptance. Batteries, liquids, powders, chemicals, magnets, pressurized items and other regulated cargo must be declared before quotation and booking.
How the Air Freight Process Works
What Affects Air Freight Cost?
The lowest rate per kilogram is not always the lowest total logistics cost. Compare the complete service, routing, estimated uplift, destination fees and delivery scope.
Chargeable Weight
The higher of actual and volumetric weight under the applicable airline rules.
Route & Service Level
Origin, destination, direct or connecting flight, priority and available capacity.
Cargo Characteristics
Dimensions, stackability, value, temperature needs and dangerous-goods status.
Local Charges
Pickup, screening, terminal handling, customs, storage and final delivery.
Air Freight FAQ
How long does international air freight take?
Airport-to-airport services commonly take about 1–10+ days depending on priority, routing and capacity. Door-to-door service often takes about 5–12+ days after including pickup, customs and delivery.
How is air freight chargeable weight calculated?
The airline generally compares actual gross weight with volumetric weight and charges the higher amount. A common volumetric formula is cubic centimetres divided by 6,000, subject to the service’s rules.
What cargo details are needed for a quote?
Provide origin, destination, commodity, package count, dimensions of each package, gross weight, cargo-ready date and whether the cargo contains batteries, liquids, powders, chemicals or other regulated items.
Can BRF SHIPPING provide door-to-door air freight?
Yes. Suitable shipments can include supplier pickup, export customs, air transport, destination clearance coordination and final delivery.
Can lithium batteries be shipped by air?
They may be accepted when correctly classified and compliant with applicable dangerous-goods and airline requirements. Full battery details must be reviewed before booking.
What is the difference between direct and connecting air freight?
Direct services usually have fewer handling points and may be faster. Connecting services can offer different capacity or cost but add transfer time and operational risk.
Does air freight include customs duties and taxes?
Not automatically. Airport-to-airport pricing normally excludes import duties and taxes. DAP or DDP responsibilities must be defined clearly in the quotation.
Is air freight suitable for oversized cargo?
Possibly. Provide exact dimensions, weight, centre of gravity and handling requirements so aircraft-door, pallet and main-deck options can be assessed.
